It all began in a church hall with European champion Godfrey Butler & World champion Howard Brown back in 1981 under the W.A.C.O banner. Martin entered into mainly semi-contact competitions back then, fighting the likes of Levi "Laser Legs" Lovel, Derek Edwards & Eval Denton before they moved onto Full-contact becoming big names at that. Martin achieved his 1st black belt with the E.C.K.A when they took over from W.A.K.O, then owned by Mr.Haig (best forgotten) but run by Howard Brown. Martin Joined the W.K.A after 3 years with the F.S.K.A with Alfie Lewis. Martin liked the way the W.K.A ran back then and met some very respectable people along the way such as Ronnie Green, Kash "The Flash" Gill & star referee Mr John Blackledge.Martin is happy to be moving the club forward to the W.R.S.A with widely respected Steve Humphries & Annie Squire at the forfront of the kickboxing community.Martin is very happy about his achievements within the sport over the years, anyone who is anyone knows how much of a feeling it is to obtain your black belt and all the hard work involved. Today, Martin along with Peter & Richard, only wishes he had more time to train his loyal students what he has learned over his time so far. Peter Deaville -4th Degree black belt Kickboxing (W.K.A/W.R.S.A)-1st Degree black belt Karate (E.C.K.A)-Instructors grade in Wushu Sanda Sanshou (Belarus Wushu Federation)Peter Deaville trains with Martin at the Wallace Centre & has known Martin for some 20 years as his top student & instructor. Pete started with a chap called Simon Davis with the E.C.K.A gaining up to his green belt. When that shut down, Pete moved to another club with a Mr. Sean Dobson. Over the next 8 years there, Pete did gain his black belt, it was at this club where Martin & Pete met. Pete joined Martin when Martin set up his own club in the mid 90's, and thus met up again with Howard Brown who graded them to the highest honour in kickboxing, the 4th degree black belt. Pete now judges and referees fights with the W.R.S.A and is the Chief Official at many sanctioned events. Between the pair of them, Martin & Pete take many fighters to shows, enjoying many successes throughout. Richard Toplass -1st Degree Black Belt Kickboxing W.K.A-Instructors Grade Wushu Sanda Sanshou (Belarus Wushu Federation)Richards Kickboxing journey began some 12 years ago when a friend suggested he try out the sport with him as a means to stand up for himself after being bullied at school. This took him to Martin & Petes club at a small building in Abbey Hulton shared with the local amatuer boxing club. Taking an instant shine to it, Richard kept up going even after all his friends had stopped for one reason or another, going down to the gym on his own. Richard worked his way through the gradings, gaining many A grades throughout. Richard was never really interested at the time in fighting in the ring as a boy. In early 2007, Richard finally gained his black belt still under the instruction of Mart & Pete and sights this as his proudest achievement to date. In late 2006 a fight opportunity became available to fight a fellow debutant so he decided to give fighting a go. Training hard for 3 Months solid Richard fought for the first time against Tobias White from Coventry. Although losing the fight on points, Richard showed excellent technique and did himself proud. Not deterred Richard fought soon after, winning a fight by K.O showing what he is capable of achieving. Richard still trains with Martin & Peter to this day and owes all that he knows to their teaching skills. Getting into the teaching side of things is the next step for Richard and he enjoys teaching classes for Martin & Pete.
